ERCP

Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is a long word, but a short procedure that allows GI doctors to diagnose, biopsy, and treat problems in the bile ducts of the liver, gallbladder, and pancreas. The Board-Certified fellowship-trained Gastroenterologists at Saddleback Medical Group have advanced training and expertise at performing ERCP at the Digestive Disease Center in Laguna Hills, California. For the ERCP procedure, the GI doctor carefully inserts a thin tube (endoscope) through the mouth and esophagus, and into the main bile duct at the first part of the small intestine. After inserting dye, X-Ray films are taken. If gallstones or narrowed bile ducts are found, they may be corrected during ERCP, eliminating the need for major surgery.
